Our Green Page- Environmental and Ethical Policy
Paul and Fiona acknowledge "We are very lucky to live
in this beautiful part of Wales. We want to protect this wonderful heritage for
future generations. Environmental issues are not a philosophy at The Hilary
they are our way of life".
We are proud owners of a silver 'Green Tourism Award', the first in Llandudno
to receive this. We are also proud to be the first in Llandudno to have been
given a Fair Trade certificate by the Conwy Fair Trade Association.
Whether you belive in Climate Change or not, we are sure you believe in saving
money. We try to give you the best deal we can at The Hilary and if our guests
can help us save money then we can pass those savings back on to our guests.
Reducing Waste - Wherever possible by thinking about what we buy and how we use
it. Non-essential documents and emails are not printed. We constantly review
which internal documents and external publications are essential, if they are
not needed they are cancelled thus reducing waste and saving money. We ensure
all our printing and photocopying is double-sided.
Re-use - Wherever possible by trying to find a second life for items. For
example, scrap paper, used envelopes etc are used for taking messages and
writing notes.
Recycle - All paper, card, cardboard, glass, plastic, cans, garden waste, food
waste, inkjet cartridges and mobile phones are recycled. We support social
economy organisations and charity shops to recycle materials as appropriate.
Buy Recycled - Where possible we use items made from recycled material.
Purchase Fair Trade and Environmentally Sound Goods We use fair trade tea,
coffee and sugar as a minimum when possible and source as many purchases as
possible locally,
Minimize Use of Energy, Water & Other Resources For example lights and
equipment are switched on only when used. Energy saving bulbs and low flush
toilets are used. Our windows have been double glazed and our loft and wall
spaces insulated.
Reduce Pollution, Waste and Emissions - By using chemical-free cleaning
products where possible. We minimise the use of our own car by walking or using
public transport if possible. Nor do we use chemicals in the garden. We don't
have much food waste at The Hilary (once you 've had the breakfasts you'll
understnad why) but what we do have is recycled.
Raise Awareness - By keeping up to date on environmental issues and encouraging
our guests to be more environmentally sensitive. We like our guests to help us
and provide a green section in the welcome folders in our rooms to do this.
Future plans - We are continually looking for ways to reduce our environmental
impact, however small or large they may be. We will continue to monitoring
water and energy consumption to help this.
